Chiropractic
Chiropractic philosophy follows the principles that the human body seeks balance and self-repair, and that proper structure is essential for proper function.
Chiropractic is generally categorized as an alternative medicine based on manual manipulation of restrictions and misalignments in the spine and joints. Chiropractors are licensed medical professionals, trained and focused on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.
This natural form of whole-body healthcare doesn’t utilize drugs or surgery, but rather its emphasis is to make sure your body is functioning as optimally as possible. A chiropractor uses spinal and extremity adjustment to correct misalignment and restriction, improve joint motion, reduce pain, increase blood flow and nerve function, giving the body the opportunity to heal naturally and recover on its own. They encourage accountability for restoring and maintaining overall health by providing education on exercise, diet, nutrition, and ergonomics in the home or workplace.
Patients generally seek treatment for neck pain & headache, whiplash, back pain & sciatica, scoliosis, jaw pain, shoulder & knee pain, wrist & hand pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle & foot pain, plantar fasciitis, as well as many other conditions, or due to injury. Chiropractic treatment can also help with a wide variety of non-musculoskeletal conditions including asthma & allergies, digestive problems, and autoimmune disorders
About Chiropractic
Chiropractic Beginnings
Although there are recordings of spinal corrections being preformed dating back 4000 years, the credit for the invention of chiropractic goes to Daniel David Palmer in 1895 in Davenport Iowa. The word is a combination of the words cheiros and praktikos, meaning “done by hand”.
Doctors of Chiropractic receive extensive, demanding professional education on par with medical doctors and osteopaths.
To receive the doctor of chiropractic degree, candidates must complete extensive undergraduate prerequisites and four years of graduate-level instruction and internship at an accredited chiropractic institution. Comprehensive knowledge of all systems of the body and diagnostic procedures enable the DC to thoroughly evaluate a patient, address disorders related to the spine, and determine the need for referral to another health care provider.
Football Leagues Use Chiropractors
The NFL uses chiropractic to help prevent injury by increasing range of motion, to treat injuries, to maintain wellness, and to enhance performance.
Chiropractic is recognized by governmental health care programs
Chiropractic is included in Medicare, Medicaid, Federal Employees Health Care Benefits Programs, Federal Workers’ Compensation, and all state workers’ compensation programs. Chiropractic students are qualified to receive federal student loan assistance and DCs are authorized to be commissioned as health care officers in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Chiropractors Need Chiropractic Care
Everyone benefits from a chiropractic treatment including your chiropractor. Providing chiropractic care is a very physical job that can take a toll on their bodies. It is important that they practice self care with stretching & activity, eating well, and seeing their chiropractor regularly.
