The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience. Make yourself comfortable, and please know that if your therapist needs you to adjust your position they will ask. Otherwise, change position anytime to make yourself comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking, and as the massage progresses, enter quiet states of relaxation. If your session is rehabilitation-based, the therapist will stay in contact with you regarding pain levels and to measure relief.
Most massage lotions or oils will not damage your clothing. If you have any concerns, bring a comfortable set of clothes to put on afterward. Sessions can be designed that do not interfere with hair or makeup, and if you have concerns about this be sure to let the therapist know at the beginning of the session. After the session, should you choose, you may return to work.
If the therapist is doing anything to make you uncomfortable during your treatment, let them know immediately. Also, let them know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, or if the pressure needs to be changed. If something is not working for you….speak up! It’s ok!
