If I am embarrassed, do I have to be completely undressed for massage therapy?

No.  Your massage therapist will give you the privacy to undress and make yourself comfortable on the table. You should undress to the level you are comfortable.  For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. If you will be more comfortable, you may leave your underwear on and the therapist will work around it.

Once you are undressed, on the table, and under the sheet, the therapist will only uncover the part of your body being worked on.  Woman’s breasts and the genitals of both women and men will not be uncovered.  If the therapist is going to work on a woman’s abdomen, a second towel or sheet will be used to cover the breasts so that the main sheet may be moved to expose the abdomen. This is known as draping.

Also remember that massage therapists are professional who are sensitive to issues a patient might have with touch. They are non-judgmental about body weight, the amount of hair an individual has, any skin conditions, scars, disabilities, medical conditions, or personal history of trauma. The therapist understands that your comfort and ability to relax is the most important element of effective treatment.
